BOTAFOGO ANNOUNCES THE SIGNING OF PARAGUAY MIDPER MATÍAS SEGOVIA
Botafogo announced this Tuesday the signing of Paraguayan attacking midfielder Matías Segovia, who stands out for Garaní-PAR and for the country's under-20 team. The 20-year-old signed a contract until the end of 2026 and arrives permanently at the club.
How he plays: meet Matías Segovia, Botafogo's new signing
Segovia was in the starting line-up for Paraguay in the last U-20 South American Championship. The midfielder made eight appearances for the competition and provided an assist for Diego González's goal against Peru.
The Paraguayan fell in love with John Textor, who quickly negotiated with Guaraní and likes the player. The directors of Botafogo closed the contract in recent days and the 20-year-old athlete is expected in Rio de Janeiro to undergo tests.
Despite his young age, Segovia makes it to the main team. Internally, he is seen as a player with potential and who can evolve under Luís Castro. Training midfielder, the Paraguayan also plays on the left wing. In the current season, Matías Segovia made six games, did not score goals and provided an assist.
The Paraguayan was one of the players most watched by the club's recruitment team since Alvinegro was acquired by John Textor and became SAF. The club will pay 1.5 million dollars (R$ 7.3 million, at current prices) with Guaraní, from Paraguay, for him.
Segovia is an unprecedented signing profile in the SAF era: he is the first player under 1.70m that the club has signed for the first team since John Textor arrived. The American was impressed with the young man's dribbling and driving in short space.
Botafogo formalized the proposal to Guaraní last Tuesday (28), the clubs started talking and the negotiation was closed at 1.5 million dollars (R$ 7.6 million, at current quotations), an amount that will be paid in installments until the beginning of next year.
